At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, Teacher Appreciation Week is more than a celebration. It is a reminder of the countless ways music teachers shape lives every single day.
A music teacher does much more than teach notes, rhythms, scales, or songs. Great teachers help students discover confidence they did not know they had. They encourage perseverance during difficult moments, celebrate every milestone, and create safe spaces where creativity can flourish. For many children and teens, music lessons become one of the few places where they feel truly seen, heard, and understood.
The impact of music education often extends far beyond the studio or classroom. Students learn discipline, patience, emotional expression, collaboration, and resilience. They learn how to overcome frustration and experience the joy of progress through consistent effort. A child who begins lessons shy and uncertain may later perform confidently in front of an audience. Another student may discover a lifelong passion that changes the direction of their future.
During Teacher Appreciation Week 2026, we wanted to honor our incredible teachers by sharing the voices that matter most: the parents and students who witness these transformations firsthand. Every story shared with us reflects the deep relationships formed between teachers and students and the lasting impact of personalized music education.
These messages remind us why we do what we do.
A School Culture Centered on Every Student
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we believe in the transformational power of music education. We deeply value the gift and uniqueness that each of our students brings. We strive to understand what they love and what moves their hearts, how they like to learn, and we constantly ask ourselves: Who do I need to be for this student right now? What type of teacher does this student need at this very moment?
This personalized approach sets us apart and ensures that each student's musical journey is framed on a path of exploration, joy, and growth. Rather than forcing every student into the same mold, our teachers adapt their methods to encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
The results are outstanding. Time and time again, we witness students develop self-confidence, new skills, creativity, and a lifelong love for music. We see children who were once hesitant become bold performers. We see students learn discipline while still experiencing the joy of artistic exploration. Most importantly, our students never stop surprising us and leaving us in awe as they progress in their musical journey.
Teacher Appreciation Week gives us the opportunity to pause and recognize the incredible educators who make these moments possible every day.
Bella Jones: Building Confidence One Lesson at a Time

The first few music lessons can shape a student’s entire relationship with learning. A patient and encouraging teacher can make all the difference, especially for young beginners who may feel nervous or unsure of themselves.
That is exactly the kind of impact Bella Jones has already had on one of her students.
“We would like to thank Bella Jones for the care, patience, and encouragement you have shown Kaine already. In just three lessons, we have seen a significant improvement in both his confidence and his excitement for the piano. Your kindness and ability to connect with him have already made such an impact. We truly appreciate your gift for teaching and are so grateful to have found you.All the best, Krista Schuelke Cook”
Stories like this beautifully demonstrate how meaningful those early connections can be. Music education is not simply about learning an instrument; it is about helping students feel capable, motivated, and excited to grow.
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we often see that when a teacher takes time to truly connect with a student, confidence follows naturally. Bella’s kindness and patience are helping create a positive foundation that Kaine can build on for years to come.
Ty Bell: Making Drum Lessons Exciting and Personal

One of the most effective ways to inspire students is by connecting lessons to the music they already love. When students feel personally connected to what they are learning, motivation increases, practice becomes more enjoyable, and progress accelerates.
Ty Bell has done exactly that for one of his drum students.
“We are so grateful for Ty! We’ve been incredibly impressed with how much Browning has already learned on the drums. Ty does a great job incorporating the music Browning enjoys, which keeps him motivated to practice and excited to learn. Thank you for sharing your love of music and investing in Browning each week. He truly looks forward to his drum lessons! Kelli Wilkins”
Drum lessons can be transformative for students because they combine creativity, coordination, rhythm, discipline, and self-expression. When students genuinely look forward to lessons each week, learning becomes joyful rather than stressful.
Ty’s ability to tailor lessons around Browning’s interests reflects the personalized philosophy we value so deeply at Kingwood Arts Academy of Music. Students thrive when teachers listen carefully to who they are and what inspires them.
Abbigail Collier: Encouraging Young Performers to Shine

Voice lessons require vulnerability and courage. Singing is deeply personal, and students need teachers who can guide them with technical expertise while also building confidence and emotional strength.
Abbigail Collier has become exactly the kind of mentor Heidi needs.
“Thank you to Ms. Abbi for being such an inspirational teacher to Heidi. We have been so thankful for her leadership, her kindness, and her gift of music. She is truly passionate about what she does, and it shows. Heidi has grown so much as a singer, and Ms. Abbi's instruction has been pivotal in that growth. She has pushed Heidi to be the best performer she can be and gives amazing pointers and tips each time we prepare for a new audition. Thank you, Ms. Abbi, for your guidance and support! The Kelly Family”
Preparing for auditions can be intimidating for young singers. Students must learn vocal technique, stage presence, emotional communication, and confidence under pressure. A supportive teacher can completely transform the experience.
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we love seeing students discover their voice not only musically but also personally. Abbigail’s passion, leadership, and encouragement are helping Heidi grow into a stronger and more confident performer with every opportunity.
Matthew Mosher: Creating a Positive Learning Environment

A positive learning environment can change everything for a student. When students feel supported and encouraged, they become more willing to take risks, ask questions, and persevere through challenges.
That environment is exactly what Matthew Mosher has created for William.
“William’s piano teacher, Matthew Mosher, has been absolutely wonderful. He is incredibly patient, encouraging, and dedicated to helping him grow and learn. Since starting lessons, I have seen so much improvement in both his confidence and his piano skills. He takes the time to explain things in a way he understands and always creates a positive learning environment. His support and kindness have made such a difference in his musical journey, and we are very grateful for all the hard work and care he puts into teaching him. Jamie Melgar-Arias”
Every student learns differently. Some need visual explanations, others need repetition, encouragement, creativity, or structure. Great teachers recognize those differences and adapt accordingly.
Matthew’s thoughtful teaching style reflects the student-centered culture we strive to cultivate at Kingwood Arts Academy of Music. His patience and dedication are helping William grow not only as a pianist but also as a confident learner.
Julia Garza: Inspiring Joy Through Early Childhood Music Education

Music education can begin transforming lives at a very young age. Early childhood music classes help children develop rhythm, listening skills, coordination, creativity, confidence, and emotional expression in ways that often surprise families.
Julia Garza’s impact on Henry is a wonderful example of this.
“Our son Henry goes to class with Ms. Julia at CHES. He loves Ms. Julia and his music class!! It is so fun for us to hear what's happening in class, and we really can’t believe how much he’s started to love singing and playing instruments around the house. Henry has never been short on confidence (😂), but it is really special to see him channel that confidence into musical performances. We really appreciate Ms. Julia! Shannon R. McKay”
Parents often tell us that music begins showing up at home in unexpected ways after lessons begin. Children sing throughout the house, create rhythms on tables, experiment with instruments, and proudly perform for family members.
These moments are powerful because they reveal genuine excitement and emotional connection to music. Julia’s ability to create engaging and joyful classroom experiences helps students develop not only musical skills but also a lifelong love for artistic expression.
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we believe those joyful beginnings matter deeply.
Andrés Aristimuño: Teaching Music Beyond the Instrument

Some teachers leave a lasting impression because they teach far beyond technique. They help students develop artistry, confidence, discipline, emotional awareness, and a deeper understanding of music itself.
That impact shines clearly through the messages shared about Andrés Aristimuño.
“Andrés es el mejor profesor de música que María José, mi hija, ha podido tener. Andrés ha acompañado el desarrollo musical de María durante 3 años con su amplio conocimiento, dedicación, pedagogía, calidez y empatía, no solo como profesor, sino también como una gran persona. Gracias, Andrés, por todo lo que has hecho por María José y por nosotros. Un gran abrazo. Happy Teacher's Appreciation Day!!! Eliana Bejarano”
This heartfelt message reflects the trust families place in music educators who accompany students through years of growth and development. Long-term mentorship can profoundly shape a student’s confidence and identity.
Another student shared this thoughtful reflection:
“Andrés, thanks for being such a wonderful MUSIC teacher… i.e., more than a piano teacher. I am learning so much more than just how to play piano from you. I really appreciate all the things you do to help me not only develop my technique but also learn what makes piano playing sound good or bad, and to make my piano playing musical and enjoyable. You are a joy to work with. Charlie Etter”
Music education becomes especially meaningful when students begin to understand not only how to play notes, but also how to communicate emotion, phrasing, expression, and artistry. Teachers who cultivate musicality help students connect more deeply with the music they create.
A third family shared how Andrés adapts his teaching style to meet individual needs:
“Andres is a great piano teacher who gives thoughtful feedback and instills confidence and skills in every lesson. He is patient, meets my child where they are, and adapts his teaching style to my child’s needs. He takes great pride in his work, and it clearly shows in the quality of his lessons. Thank you, Andres, for being an amazing piano instructor and being part of our piano journey. Karla Rodriguez”
This philosophy of meeting students where they are lies at the heart of our approach at Kingwood Arts Academy of Music. Every child learns differently, and teachers who recognize those differences can unlock extraordinary growth.
Rene Oliveras: A Mentor Who Changed a Student’s Life

Some teacher stories go far beyond music instruction. They become stories of perseverance, transformation, mentorship, and life-changing encouragement.
The story shared about Rene Oliveras is an extraordinary example.
“We would love to recognize Mr. Rene Oliveras for the incredible impact he has had on our son’s musical journey and personal growth. When our son first joined the band in 6th grade, he struggled to learn his instrument and became so discouraged that he was ready to quit altogether. Mr. Oliveras completely changed that through his patience, encouragement, and positivity. Now that our son is about to finish 8th grade, he has earned the school's highest band achievement, the Quincy Jones Musicianship Award, plays three instruments, has consistently been in the top band, and has placed in the top tier at regionals and other competitions. As a naturally shy child, he also found a true community through the band. He has built strong friendships and now selflessly encourages other students just as Mr. Oliveras encouraged him. Had it not been for Mr. Olivera’s mentorship and belief in him, our son would have missed so many joys, accomplishments, friendships, and lessons in perseverance. We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact he has had on our son’s life. Thank you. Respectfully, Carla Manuel”
This story captures the profound impact music teachers can have on students during critical developmental years. What began as discouragement and frustration eventually became achievement, leadership, confidence, friendship, and resilience.
Music programs often become places where students find a sense of belonging and identity. Teachers who lead with patience and positivity can completely change the direction of a student’s experience.
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we believe these stories represent the true heart of music education. Awards and accomplishments matter, but the deeper victories are confidence, perseverance, connection, and personal growth.
Why Parent Stories Matter During Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week gives families an opportunity to express gratitude, but it also serves another important purpose: it reminds educators that their work truly matters.
Teachers often invest countless unseen hours preparing lessons, encouraging students, selecting repertoire, adapting learning strategies, communicating with parents, organizing performances, and supporting students emotionally through difficult moments. Many of those efforts happen quietly behind the scenes.
When families share stories like these, they help teachers understand the lasting impact of those daily acts of care and dedication.
At Kingwood Arts Academy of Music, we are constantly inspired by the relationships formed between students, families, and teachers. Music lessons become partnerships built on trust, encouragement, and shared goals.
The stories shared this Teacher Appreciation Week 2026 reveal several themes that consistently define exceptional music education:
Patience and encouragement
Personalized teaching
Confidence building
Joyful learning
Emotional connection
Long-term mentorship
Artistic growth
Community and belonging
These qualities are what transform music lessons into life-changing experiences.
The Lasting Value of Music Education
Research continues to show the many benefits of music education for children and teens. Students who study music often develop stronger focus, discipline, listening skills, creativity, and emotional awareness. Music can also improve self-esteem and provide healthy emotional expression.
But beyond the measurable benefits lies something even more meaningful: the human connection formed through music.
Music gives students a voice. It teaches them how to communicate emotion, collaborate with others, persevere through mistakes, and celebrate progress. It creates moments families remember for years: first recitals, successful auditions, favorite songs learned at home, spontaneous living room performances, and breakthroughs after months of hard work.
The teachers featured in these stories are helping create those moments every single week.
Teacher Appreciation Week reminds us that music educators are not simply instructors. They are mentors, encouragers, role models, listeners, and guides.
Their influence often extends far beyond what they may ever fully realize.
